Services Offered EDUCATION FAMILY TO FAMILY (Education Course): This is a free 12 week course for family and friends of individuals with severe brain disorders (mental illness). The course is taught by trained NAMI family members. All instruction and materials are free for class participants. This course provides information, insight, empathy and empowerment. Changing with the Times - The NAMI Provider Education Course: This 10 week course is specifically written for provider staff and is taught by a team of professionals, family members, and consumers. The course addresses the emerging role of mental health workers and professionals and is based on the NAMI 12 week course for family members, " Family to Family." INFORMATION SERVICES REFERRAL AND HELP: Information about mental illness, the service delivery system, support groups, and other resources in the community. NEWSLETTER: Bi-monthly newsletters which provide the latest information about upcoming events and meetings in the mental health community and also the latest news on new medications and treatments, legislative issues, community resources and much more. ADVOCACY AND SUPPORT SERVICES CONSUMER SERVICES: CARES - NAMI CARES (Consumers Advocating for Recovery through Empowerment), a peer-based mutual support group for individuals facing the challenges of recovering from any serious mental illness. The group meets the 4th Monday of the month during the support group segment of the NAMI meetings. Speaking Out Panel - Trained volunteers speak about their experiences either as a family member or consumer of mental health services at local hospitals, community centers, schools, churches, etc. In Our Own Voice: Living with Mental Illness - A recovery presentation given by trained consumers for other consumers, family members, professionals, and lay audiences. "In Our Own Voice" is a practical tool to educate and increase awareness about the true nature of brain disorders, commonly known as mental illness. The presentation covers topics such as Dark Days, Acceptance, Treatment, Coping Strategies and Successes, Hopes and Dreams.
