Help Wanted

Many volunteer positions are open.

NAMI Rochester is an organization of people who donate generously of their time and talents to provide education, advocacy and support to those with mental illness and their loved ones. Currently we're looking for people willing to help in the following areas:

Office: Assist staff with clerical duties (copying, mail preparation, collating, etc...)
Commitment: 2-3 hours as needed

Helping at Monthly Meetings: Various duties listed below, involving different people.
Commitment: Once or twice a year, 4th Monday of the month, 6:30 –9:00 p.m.

  • Set up display tables, chairs, and literature
  • Take down tables, chairs and put away literature
  • Act as greeters, distribute literature.
  • Registration Table
  • Refreshment Table
  • Library Table ( books, videos for rent)

Criminal Justice Committee. Attend periodic committee meetings, Monitor Mental Health Court (take notes, stock literature rack, make contacts with families when an opportunity presents itself). Training provided.

ommitment: Once every other month

Outreach Committee. Plans and evaluates monthly meetings and special events assesses member needs, does community outreach and education at fairs, etc., publicity, coordinates volunteers.
Commitment: 2nd Wednesday of the month, 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Special Events. Help at special events such as the annual banquet (April), the annual duck race (June) and the Jessica Cole Henderson Memorial Lecture (October).
Commitment: Once or twice a year

Facilitating caring and sharing sessions. Help Facilitate small group discussions at monthly meetings. Training provided for those who are qualified.
Commitment: 4th Monday of the month, 6:30 –9:00 p.m. and Facilitators Committee meets three times a year

Family to Family Teachers. Co lead 12 week educational workshops for family members of those diagnosed with a mental illness. Commitment: 12 weeks once a year, plus weekend training one time only in Albany.

Legislative Committee. New group looking for people who want to develop an understanding of current legislative issues and do advocacy locally and in Albany.

Speakers Bureau: Speaking about NAMI and personal experiences as a peer or a family member to groups ( schools, churches, agencies, etc.) Training provided for those who are qualified.
Commitment: Periodically
